Located at the base of the Ten-mile range in Summit County, Breckenridge Colorado is a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. Though there is amazing skiing, hiking and fishing to be found in this gem of a town, it’s also a great spot for mountain bikers. Check out our list of thrilling tracks, loops and trails and make sure to explore a few of them the next time you’re swinging through Breckenridge.
Peaks trail
Peaks Trail is a classic out and back trail that begins in Frisco and ends 16.2 miles later in Breckenridge. The trail is well-marked and great for bikers looking for an easy-to-moderate level ride. Highlights include a pass by Rainbow Lake and an expansive meadow at the 5 mile mark.
Lake Dillon
For those looking to ride a trail with a view, the 18 mile loop around Lake Dillon does not disappoint. Besides circling the large, beautiful lake, the trail takes bikers on a steep climb through the woods up Swan Mountain, ending at Sapphire Point, a knockout of a viewpoint.
Flume Loops
Another great trail for beginners, the Flume Loops trail is a single-track seven mile loop that is well-marked and easy to follow. Pro tip: ride the loop counterclockwise to knock out most of the hard climbing near the beginning of the ride.
Copper Triangle
An old and well-known Coloradan trail, the Copper Triangle (also known as Leadville Loop) is a scenic route that sends bikers crashing through the lush greens of Aspen trees. Beginning at the Copper Mountain resort and eventually working its way through the Leadville Valley, the ride is long and runs for 79 miles all the way around, but can be split up into more manageable chunks.
Independence Pass
An intense, 35-mile round trip trail that takes bikers from Twin Lakes all the way to a large summit in Aspen, Independence Pass is not the trail for the faint of heart. Expect rigorous climbs and very little opportunities for scenic cruising. A great ride for the aspiring professional biker, best explored in the summer months as to avoid heavy snowfall.
