A Campground Made for Swashbuckling Pirates

My family had been excited for our trip to Tuckerton, New Jersey ever since we were invited to stay at it’s Sea Pirate Campground. Finally, after 700 miles across 4 states and 12 hours in the car we arrived! We were warmly welcomed and despite being an hour and a half early, we were able to check into our cabin.

We had browsed the website but came with no expectations which made the surprise all the better. Sea Pirate Campground was beautifully landscaped and well maintained including gravel pathways, wooden bridges and more. We would be staying in a basic cabin. It was two bedrooms with electricity, a counter and fridge, a full size bed and four twin size beds along with a water spigot, charcoal grill, fire pit and lawn chairs outside. 

These cabins are perfect people who prefer to ‘rough it’ with a few basic necessities. We had a great first night cooking on the charcoal grill, roasting marshmallows and hot dogs over the campfire and more. After a long day of travel it was nice to lay our heads on comfortable beds instead of sleeping bags on the hard ground. 

On Saturday we made our way to  Tuckerton Seaport for the annual Pirates and Privateers Festival. The girls loved hunting for treasure and working through the activities and mom loved that there were so many great photo opportunities. Plus we were decked out in cool pirate gear thanks to PartyPalooza.

In addition to cool pirate gear, the PartyPalooza goody bags were perfect for keeping the girls entertained in those “in between” moments. You know the moments when they couldn’t be playing in the pool, or at the park, or the pond.  

One of my favorite things about Sea Pirate Campground is that they offered so much to do – and much of it was included in your stay. Actually, there was so much to do we couldn’t fit it all in. After arriving home from the Seaport we got news that we were being upgraded to a Deluxe Cottage! The basic cabin was lovely but it turns out we’re not big on roughing it – we’re more glampers than we are campers. 

THIS was my kind of style. The Delux Cottage featured a screened in porch, outdoor grill and firepit, indoor and outdoor dining. Oh and did I mention the bathroom, kitchen, and seating area? Sleeping arrangement included two full size beds, two twin beds and even a futon. It also came with a bathroom and fully stocked kitchen. 

It allowed our family just the amount of outdoor living that we wanted but a comfortable place to take care of the kids – no one wants to be trekking a four year old through the woods to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Most families could spend the entire weekend of Sea Pirate Campground and never have run out of the things to do. However, our family has a serious case of wanderlust and couldn’t help but spend all of Sunday exploring the local area. One of the best parts about Sea Pirate Campground is that it’s a great home base. It’s just 15 minutes from the Jersey Shore – including it’s miles of beaches, restaurants and amusement parks, and only 30 miles north of Atlantic City.

We spent our last night cozied up around the fire making more smores – and memories.
