In December, we finally learned the place we would call home for the next four years of our life: Florida! Oh, and I had 11 days to move my family there. Then we would have a whopping 10 days to find a house, a school and basically get our lives together. So I did what any new Navy wife would do. I packed as much as I could into the back of our SUV, authorized my mother to handle our housing move and I drove myself and our 5-year-old down to Florida to meet my husband.
I packed the things I thought would be crucial to getting us through the week or two until our things could join us. A few pots and pans, dishes and a couple of suitcases with clothing. We could rough it for a couple of weeks right? Except that a couple of weeks turned into four. Then a month turned into two. We spent two months with two blow up air mattresses serving as our sofas and beds. Our dining room consist of the few boxes we had packed. While it wasn’t the end of the world, it felt pretty miserable to this added stress during this time of big transition in our life. But that’s part of military life right?
Yes, sometimes being part of the military means doing things that aren’t easy. Yes, sometimes it means things won’t always be comfortable. But being part of the military also means we’re flexible. We roll with the punches and we find solutions to every problem. Although I wish I had found the solution to this particular problem a bit earlier.
