Family game night looks differently today than when I was a kid. Sure, we like to gather around classic board games on occasion but honestly the kids spend half the time moving too many spaces, dropping the dice and short changing me (not entirely sure that one is an accident). I’ve spent more money replacing board game pieces than I paid for the actual games. Which is why we’ve been investing in more digital games to play as a family. It started with Heads Up and then spread from there. Now we’ve expanded our family game nights to our circle of friends and their kids.
It can be tough to double date when everyone is working around work schedules and daycare providers. It’s easier – and usually a lot more fun – to hang out at each others houses for game night. Here are a few of our favorite video games and apps for your next digital family game night.
Games and Apps For Your Next Digital Family Game Night
Up to four players can join in the fun in this updated version of SuperMario. The 3D effects are fun, and the game offers new transformations and unique methods of motion for each player that makes it fun to swap roles with each new game. This version is for the Nintendo Wii console only.
The Hasbro Family Game Night Fun Pack brings 10 of your favorite family games to the Nintendo Wii for hours of fun. It has all of our favs to make you want to get up and bust a move like “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars and “All About That Bass” by Meghan Trainor. The track list is amazing and so much fun!
“Heads Up!” is the super fun game that Ellen plays on her show. From naming celebrities to singing, to silly accents — guess the card on your head from your friends’ clues before the timer runs out. This is one of our favorite time passers while at sea on my recent cruise to Antarctica as well as any time we have a layover at an airport.
Where will your choices take you? The possibilities are endless in The Game of Life. This was my favorite board game as a kid and I love that I can now play with my family regardless of where we are. Navigate animated tokens through a 3D environment of winding roads and lush landscapes! You can settle down, get married and pop out a couple of nuggets, or you can stay single and indulge in lavish luxuries and risky investments.
You can skip passing the phone back and forth with the ScreenBeam Mini2 Wireless Display Receiver. It lets you wirelessly mirror anything from your phone or tablet onto your HDTV, including apps!
Moving your gaming system to the game room or a to friends house is a lot easier with the MyWirelessTV 2. It replaces messy HDMI cables with the convenience of wireless, so you can install an HDTV anywhere you want. You can connect your television to your gaming console (or set top box/Blu-ray player/DVR) without having to use an obtrusive cable.
