These delicious Chipotle Mango Meatballs are perfect for not taking up too much of your time in the kitchen while the games are on.
Football season is coming up and living rooms across the country are going to be taken over each Sunday, Monday and Thursday to the sounds of fans rooting for their teams.
Even though I’m not a huge fan of football, what I do love are game day traditions and food.
My favorite game day spreads are the ones that feature a variety of easily poppable, bite size appetizers.
This year the sweet and spicy combination of this Chipotle Mango Meatball Recipe from Mango.org caught my eye.
With a 25 minute cook time, they’re perfect for not taking up too much of your time in the kitchen while the games are on.

How to Choose the Perfect Mango at the Store
Don’t judge a mango by it’s color – red doesn’t mean ripe. To check ripeness, give the mango a gentle squeeze.
A ripe mango will “give” slightly (kind of like a ripe avocado) and a firm mango will need to ripen at room temperature over a few days.
Did you know you can speed up or slow down the ripening process? If you just can’t wait for that mango to ripen, place it in a paper bag at room temperature to speed up the ripening process.
On the flip side, if you aren’t quite ready to use your ripe mango yet, you can slow down the ripening process by placing it in the refrigerator.
Chipotle Mango Meatball Recipe
Ingredients
1 (26 oz) bag pre-cooked/frozen beef meatballs
2 cups classic barbecue sauce
2 large mangos, peeled, pitted, cubed
1 tsp dried chipotle seasoning
Instructions
Bake meatballs according to directions located on the package.
Combine mango cube, seasoning and bbq sauce in a medium saucepan.
Stir until it’s blended.
Simmer over low heat for 15-20 min. Stir occasionally.
Add cooked meatballs to sauce and simmer for 5-7 min.
Can I Use My Slow Cooker Instead?
Yes! Good thinking. If you would like to make this recipe even easier and give yourself more time in front of the TV or to spend with guests, feel free to make this in your slower cooker instead!
Just add the frozen meatballs to the slow cooker and top with your BBQ sauce, mangos and chipotle seasoning. Stir to combine.
You’ll want to let this cook for 2.5 hours on high or 4 hours on low. Don’t forget to stir it occasionally.
You can also serve these directly from the slow cooker on a buffet table on the keep warm setting. Just leave them out for longer than 3 hours (although I’d be really surprised if they didn’t get eaten up in much less time!)
