From helping you whip up the perfect recipe to waking you up in the morning, there are a lot of things Google Home is capable of doing. Things like keeping you entertained to increasing productivity, it’s proven itself useful in the kitchen, office, and even the living room…BUT there are few things Google Home CAN’T do for you.
5 Things Google Connected Home CAN’T Do For You
1. Turn you into a rock star.
…But it will let you rock out with an air guitar, your hairbrush microphone, and an epic playlist. With voice command you can play songs, playlists, artists, and albums from your favorite music services like Spotify, Pandora, YouTube Music, Google Play Music, TuneIn, and iHeartRadio. You can also stream audio from your Android or iPhone to Google Home over WiFi from one of 100+ Chromecast-enabled apps.
2. Translate your wife.
Although Google Home can translate several languages, it isn’t going to be able to tell you what your wife just meant by “if you want to”, or the calculate the odds that you will end up on the couch tonight. But it can tell you the latest sports scores, movie and TV showtimes, news updates, weather, traffic, finances and more. It can also easily order great apology gifts with Google Express!
3. Cure Jet Lag.
Google Home can’t cure your wicked jet lag or let you skip the morning commute, but it can wake you up gently with the colors of a sunrise when connected to a Philips Hue light. You can also request useful things like your travel itinerary, your daily schedule, your current travel time to work in traffic and more. Just say “Ok Google, Tell me about my day” and you’ll get up to speed on things like the weather, your commute, your calendar and a news briefing from a source of your choice!
4. Replace the maid.
Unfortunately, Google Home can’t yet completely replace a maid service, laundry, dishes, and toilets are not among its repertoire. But it can help you with tasks around the house like waking you up in the morning to setting times while you cook and even keep track of your shopping list Google Home, making life just a bit easier. Because it works with Connected Home products like the Nest Thermostat and Philips Hue starter kit, you can also do things like adjust the thermostat and dim the lights with just your voice, on a set schedule or even after you’ve left the house. This is especially useful if you’re the type of couple who argues about who is going to get up out of the warm bed to turn off the light each night.
If you’re an avid traveler who likes to check in with pets at home via your Nest Cam, you can even set visual cues for things you normally wouldn’t be able to see – like the temperature of the room. For instance, you could set your Philips Hue Light in the dining room to turn red if the Nest thermostat detects the house temperature to be above 90 degrees, or turn blue if it gets below 50 degrees!
5. Help you find the remote.
When you have lost the remote into the dark recesses of the sofa cushions and you find yourself debating the amount of energy required to get up and find it versus using the buttons on the TV, Google Home is at your rescue. While it can’t help you find the remote, it can voice cast content to any TV that has Chromecast plugged in (or built-in). You can stream content from popular Chromecast apps like YouTube, Netflix, and Google Photos.

Love this post! Just goes to show that you cannot rely on technology every single time. We don’t have a google connect. Why? Because I am still contemplating on whether we need it or not.
