Living in southern Southern California, we have the luxury beautiful weather year round. As a result, our grill gets fired it up at least 4-5 times a week and it is easily our most used “appliance”. We love making burgers, steaks, vegetables, seafood, and just about anything else you can think of on it. While we often stick with our favorite “go-to” recipes, Ben and I also have a tendency to make things up on the fly – according to what is available in the cupboards of refrigerator.
Since I’m traveling quite a bit this month, we thought it would be fun to have the neighbors over for dinner. During a recent trip to Walmart, I saw that they now sell USDA Choice Premium Beef (Only one in five steaks is good enough to call Walmart Choice Premium Beef, which has been approved by the USDA for quality!) so I thought it would be fun to have a little mini grill-off.
I grabbed 4 USDA Choice Premium cuts of New York Strip Steak and we each received two to prepare. The only stipulation was that we only had 15 minutes to get the meat ready for the grill so that meant we needed to create the best tasting 10 minute steak marinade recipe we could think of.
These were Ben’s ingredients of choice
and this is how his finished steak turned out. (yes, he grabbed the two largest steaks)
These were my ingredients of choice
and this is how my steak looked hot off the grill.
The results? It was a tie. Josh liked Ben’s steak because of the “sweet glaze and excellent grill marks” and Joray liked mine because she really liked the added flavor of the Rosemary.
