Growing up my family was spread across the state and the country which meant it was hard to get together often. But the holidays were a time when everyone came home no matter how far they had to travel. I never recalled a time when someone missed out on Christmas festivities. Spending time with our family is what the holidays are all about. In our family, the kitchen is the hub of the home and baking is the perfect activity to do as a family to bring everyone together. We gathered around the island to create holiday memories making meals together and baking up goodies.
My daughter and I have been busy baking up memories this week as we prepare for the holidays. One of her favorite holiday treats are sugar cookies. The dough is easy to work with and she finds it fun to pick and choose shapes, frost the cookies herself and of course devour them after dinner. Today we had fun with this Candy Filled Sugar Cookies Recipe.
Candy Filled Sugar Cookies Recipe
Ingredients
- Nestlé Toll House Holiday Sugar Cookie Dough Sheets
- Glass Candy cut into 1/3rds or Chopped Finely
- Vanilla Frosting in Holiday Colors
- Candy Icing Pens
- Holiday Cookie Cutters
Instead of wasting time (and creating a mess) making sugar cookie dough, we went with Nestlé Toll House Holiday Sugar Cookie Dough Sheets so we got to skip right to the fun of choosing our shapes. While we were doing that, we let the oven preheat to 350 degrees.
Once they were all cut out, we use random circle objects like straws, bottle caps and icing caps to poke holes into each of the cookies.
Then we placed our cookies on an un-greased, cookie sheet and placed in the oven for 5 minutes.
After five minutes I dropped my glass candy into each cutout and placed them back in the oven for another 3.5 – 4 minutes.
Allow the cookies to cool and then frost and decorate to your delight!
Last but not least, enjoy all of your hard work.
