The Cybex Sirona car seat is using technology to keep children safe and help deter preventable deaths from overheating and hypothermia in cars.
As parents we would like to believe that we are incapable of making mistakes that could irreparably harm our children. However, it is an unfortunate fact that it happens everyday.
People are distracted or forgetful and car accidents happen. It is a fact of life, and we do our best to keep our children safe by using products designed with their wellbeing in mind.
Cybex has used technology in a new way to deter preventable deaths, and help give parents peace of mind while traveling with their little ones. The Sirona M with SensorSafe 2.0 from Cybex is a way to monitor your child while they are in their car seat, and alert you if something is wrong even if you are not with them.
This is more than just a car seat folks, it is changing the way we travel with our kids and helping save lives.
With the birth of our second child, our whole world changed. It was relatively easy to manage one child between my husband and me but now, we have to each pick a zone and play defense, which especially isn’t easy when we have to drive somewhere.
We have family that live all over the state, which means we frequently have to make long road trips for holidays and get togethers. Any parent knows just how stressful it can be to drive long haul with two young children.
Usually, it is just me and the kids on those long trips, but with Easter just last weekend, my husband made his first four hour road trip with both kids. It was the first time we tried out the Sirona M SensorSafe 2.0 car seat, and my husband, notorious for his aversion to technology, was pleasantly surprised at its helpfulness and user-friendly design.
With our first son, we struggled to find a decent car seat that we liked and also fit our checklist of needs. We actually ended up buying two different seats to get us through the newborn stage and then when he was ready for forward facing.
The Sirona M SensorSafe 2.0 is designed to accommodate children from newborn up to 65 lbs with a removable newborn inlay. That kind of range is extremely helpful and allows us to use just one seat instead overspending at each new phase.
With two separate cars, I am usually taking the kids everywhere, and when my husband has to move the car seats to his truck, we have to schedule at least an extra fifteen minutes because there is a lot of adjusting going from my car to my husband’s truck.
The Sirona M has a one hand adjustable recline which allows us to easily transition the seat with 10 different positions to fit perfectly, regardless if it is my car or my husband’s truck. There is an easy to read dual lever indicator to let us know we have the angle correct and that our son is in a healthy, safe position.
The seat can be used for rear-facing or forward facing, and it even comes with a dishwasher safe cupholder for drinks and snacks – essential for any long road trip.
The highlight of the seat is the sensor on the chest clip that connects to the vehicle receiver, which is a small device that easily plugs into the OBD port. This combination will send alerts to your smartphone through the downloaded user-friendly app.
When the car is turned off and a child is still in the carseat, a chime will go off from the vehicle receiver. It is a reminder for the parent or caregiver that the child needs to be removed from the seat.
If the child has not been removed in a reasonable amount of time, it will send an alert to the cellphone, and eventually it will alert the designated emergency contact with the vehicles last known coordinates.
Designed to help prevent overheating and hypothermia deaths, it also sends alerts if the temperature in the car moves out of the optimal zone.
As if that wasn’t enough, going one step further, it will send a warning to your smartphone if the car is moving and your sneaky little one manages to unbuckle their seatbelt or if the child has been seated for too long.
This design is meant to ensure safety in those rare moments that either a parent or a caregiver becomes distracted or forgetful. Which, when you think about it, is quite easy to do – especially if you have more than one child.
When we arrived to our destination, we were distracted with family greeting us and grabbing bags out of the car, when an alert popped up on my husband’s phone reminding us that the baby was still in his seat. Although he was skeptical at first, he now agrees that the alerts are a great idea as a safety net, because you just never know when something could go wrong.
We also love that the seat is made with an energy absorbing shell that helps reduce impact forces in the event of a collision. Plus, the Linear Side-impact Protection system, designed specifically for side impact collisions, can absorb up to 25% more impact force in combination with the head and shoulder protectors. Regardless if the seat is rear or front facing, the L.S.P can be engaged on the side of the seat adjacent to the door with the simple press of a button.
My husband is forever complaining about the unnecessary bells and whistles that come with car seats, but he was surprised at how easy the Sirona M was to use and install. He particularly loved the magnetic belt holders which hold the belt straps in place and out of the way while you are placing baby in the seat. Why didn’t someone think of this sooner?!? No more fumbling and tangling with the straps. The headrest also adjusts to 12 different positions so no more complicated rethreading of the harness.
We think Cybex has really a hit a home run with the Sirona M SensorSafe 2.0 car seat. They have addressed many of the inconveniences my husband and I have found in other seats, and taken it a step further by installing life saving technology. If you are looking for a new car seat, we highly recommend this one to all of our friends and family.
