There’s nothing quite like a home cooked meal with family. Between balancing work, school, and kids’ soccer practice, it may seem like there’s little to no time available to make a home cooked meal, but a new company called Blue Apron aims to change that. With the slogan, “A better way to cook,” Blue Apron provides fresh ingredients and great recipes delivered weekly to your home, allowing you to have all the resources at your doorstep to make three homemade dishes each week.
Their food experts source the best seasonal ingredients directly from farms, importers and family-run purveyors to create excellent, easy-to-follow recipes for chefs of all experience levels and it arrives at your doorstep. Their name proudly displays that fact, since blue aprons were originally worn by apprentice chefs in France, becoming a symbol of lifelong learning in cooking. Each week, Blue Apron provides all ingredients, pre-measured, in a well-insulated package so you can enjoy cooking delicious, homemade meals from scratch. With complete meals varying between 500-700 calories per serving and only taking around 35 minutes to prepare on average, Blue Apron aims to make it possible for your busy family to unite over the dinner table and enjoy a quality together.
But what about when one member of your family (*cough* the kiddo) makes enjoying that quality time tough by simply refusing to participate? I’m pretty sure many parents are in a similar boat. My 4 year old may be the world’s SLOWEST eater. It’s a consistent 2 hour battle at every meal to get this kid to eat anything other than a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. We’ve tried everything – from rewards to discipline – nothing seems to work. That it, until we tried having him HELP make his own meals! He loves to grow, pick and eat things from the garden, so I decided to try and further that concept by allowing him to help me in the kitchen as well.
It worked like a charm! With Blue Apron, I already had everything I needed to prepare the meal, pre-measured out and separated into baggies. This made it very easy to have Whistler help while at the same time teaching him to recognize some new items. I gave him the job of rinsing veggies while I did the chopping and preparation.
Once everything was ready to be cooked, I allowed Whistler to add the ingredients when I was ready for them. You can tell by the look on his face how much he enjoyed his job!
This time, instead of the 2 hour nagathon to “please eat”, Whistler rattled on to Dad about what each ingredient was called and what order he put them in while happily eating away. There was no arguing and we enjoyed each other’s company and laughed instead – what a concept!
Blue Apron makes cooking easier anytime of the year, and provides a great way to try new recipes and foods. Whether you want to begin cooking more at home, or want to get your kids excited about being in the kitchen or just plain eating, Blue Apron is a great way to skip the fuss of deciding what to have, and makes cooking fun again.

This post is brought to you by BlueApron and The Motherhood. All opinions are my own.
This looks really fun. I’m lucky and my toddler isn’t too picky and will eat most anything I give him as long as I actually feed it to him :)
That’s so great that he was into helping you so much. This service seems to make dinnertime less hassle.
What an awesome concept; for kids and their parents. I’ll be looking into Blue Apron some more!
I LOVE this. I feel like dinner is the one thing I cannot for the life of me get done with a newborn!
I have a picky tween! Wonder if I could get him excited…
