DisneyToon Studios has been making fantastic direct-to-video and occasional theatrical films since 1988, but it’s latest production The Pirate Fairy, will reinstate the division’s creativity and ability to keep up with their division counterparts under Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Directed by Peggie Holmes, The Pirate Fairy follows a misunderstood dust-keeper fairy named Zarina who steals Pixie Hollow’s all-important Blue Pixie Dust in order to experiment with magical variations. With Zarina joining forces with the pirates of Skull Rock, Tinker Bell and her fairy friends have to embark on an adventure of a lifetime to return it to its rightful place.
“When we were thinking of how to develop this film we bounced around a few ideas, but when pirates came up, we knew that was our missing piece,” director Peggy Holmes excitedly shared during a recent showing at DisneyToon Studios.
The fifth installment of the Tinker Bell series, The Pirate Fairy introduces Tinker Bell and the rest of the Pixie Hollow fairies to the famous characters of J.M. Barrie’s Peter and Wendy for the first time. Back before Captain Hook had his hook and Wendy made her way to Neverland, the Pixie Hollow fairies meet (and even watch hatch!) some of the most loved and hated characters Disney fans have come to know from Peter Pan and see how it all came to be with this interesting take on a prequel.
Showing the importance of working together and having forgiveness, The Pirate Fairy is a great family-friendly film full of lovable characters and memorable songs. Starring Mae Whitman as the voice of Tinker Bell, Christina Hendricks voicing Zarina and Tom Hiddleston as James, The Pirate Fairy has an all-star cast that truly lends their talents for an incredible performance in this film. Available in the United States for home media release on April 1, 2014, The Pirate Fairy truly is a special film that is worth watching and will easily make your family’s favorite rotation.
The Pirate Fairy is rated G and runs 78 minutes.
what an adorable looking movie! I can’t wait to see it with my kids!
This movie looks so cute and I think my daughter will love it. She has seen a few Fairy shows on Disney channel and she really liked them.
My girls already love this movie, probably as much as Frozen. They love having the pirates in it, not just the fairies.
I love the Tinker Bell series! My girls love all the peter pan movies!
This sounds like such a cute movie. I have all boys, so I doubt they will have much interest in it, but I might be able to convince them :)
