There’s no better way to enjoy the best sights in Bangkok than at sunrise. Not only is it cooler, but it is amazing how much is within easy reach of most hotels in Bangkok city center. If you are an early bird or just want to pack as much as possible into your stay in the Thai capital, here are some ideas of what you can do at dawn.
Walk in the Park
Lumpini Park is a calm oasis in central Bangkok and just a short walk from the Sofitel So Hotel. At any time of day, it is beautiful, with a lake and floral displays. Walk or run around this green space at sunrise, and you can see locals practicing tai chi and martial arts before the working day begins. You may get lucky and spot local birds, including mynas and pied fantails.
Have Breakfast in the Street Market
For an unusual and exotic breakfast, head over to the early-morning Silom Soi 20 in the Business District, where lots of street vendors are busy cooking tasty treats. You can find noodles, curries, sticky rice and much more. Breakfast will definitely be a little different than your usual.
Visit the Marble Temple
One of the best times to visit the Marble Temple in Bangkok is at dawn as this is when the saffron-robed monks seek alms in the community. The Carrara marble carvings are exquisite, and you get to see them without the crowds. Casa Nithra Hotel is convenient for this temple and many other top sights in Bangkok.
Take the Boat
The public ferry boats start at 6 a.m., making them ideal for an early morning glide up the Chao Phraya River. The Central Pier is the best place to catch the boat and travel with the locals, and an excellent way to see the Temple at Dawn from the water. The ferry may be crowded, but you can see the glow of the sunrise on the river and temples and glimpse the locals preparing for work as the new day dawns. Several hotels in Bangkok are close to the Chao Phraya River and the ferry points, including the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
Bangkok is full of things to see and do, and one of the best times to get out and about is at sunrise.
