We’ve probably watched our How to Train Your Dragon DVD over 50 times – easily. My son and daughter both love to watch the dragon movie with Hiccup. As a matter of fact, they love Hiccup so much, we have a stuffed animal named after him. (By the way, they don’t share any physical traits, ours is a stuffed bunny.)
The kids thoroughly enjoy watching the fire breathing dragons as they soar on the television screen in our living room. Of course, when our daughter asked if she could go see a dragon, we had to say, “Sorry honey, dragons don’t exist.”
But, what if they did?
Currently, the DreamWorks How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular, inspired by the film, is on tour in the United States. The unforgettable show includes more than a dozen dragons, some with wingspans up to 46 feet, viking warriors and world-class circus artists and acrobats as they perform the heartwarming story for the whole family.
“It is incredibly exciting to see our movie characters live on to thrill audiences in new entertainment experiences,” said Jeffrey Katzenberg, Chief Executive Officer of DreamWorks Animation. “HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON LIVE SPECTACULAR is an extraordinary re-imagining of the story that breaks new ground in visual storytelling. The early reception to the show has been phenomenal, and we are now pleased to add more dates to bring HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON LIVE SPECTACULAR to even more audiences throughout America and Canada.”
The story, based on the book by Cressida Cowell, focuses on Hiccup, the Viking teenager that doesn’t fit in with the rest of the tribe’s heroic dragon slayers. On stage, the world class performers tell this captivating story with epic adventure, fire breathing action and state-of-the-art technology that will have audiences on the edge of their seats.
Prepare to be impressed as, How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular, breaks every rule of theatrical entertainment in order to fully immerse audiences into the show in ways that have not been attempted before. The live, action packed performance uses the entire venue, maximizing every dimension of the performance space to take audiences into a mythical world of fire-breathing dragons who soar overhead at incredible speeds.
Theatrical storytelling, martial arts and acrobatics interact seamlessly combined with state-of-the-art animatronic technology and large-scale cinematic projections to mesmerize the audience. Check out the sneak peek below to get a glimpse at the making of and what the actual show will be like. It looks pretty darn amazing, doesn’t it!?

I would love to see the show in Omaha or Lincoln Nebraska.
