As of 2014 my husband became the third generation to serve his country in the United States Military. He, his father and his grandfather served in different branches and all have received a ribbon for serving in a time of war. It’s because of their choice, and the choice of thousands of other men and women to serve in our nations military, that America is a country that does not practice conscription. Many people are surprised to find out that in that aspect our country is a minority.
Serving in the United States Military may be a distinction of pride, but it is no easy task. It involves frequent moves, long hours and months spent away from home. Before we made the decision to join the military I spent many hours listening to the stories of people far more wise than I, with far more experience. While their stories contained an element of pride they were also heavy in sacrifice.
Being thrust into the Military life offers a perspective that not many get to see. While I have always been grateful to our nations veterans, the depth of my thanks did not run as deep because I truly did not know their sacrifice. One of the easiest ways we can honor our veterans on this Veteran’s Day is by taking a moment out of our busy schedule to set and talk with them. Even those who have not served on the front lines have been through so much. They have seen more of the good and the bad in the this world than you will ever know. Listen to them and learn from their stories. I promise you will walk away with an ever deepening gratitude.
I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Katy’s Goodness. I received samples for this review and a promotional item to thank me for participating.
