I spend an insane amount of time on my phone and that’s not counting the time I lay in bed playing trivia games until my eyes finally shut. Between work emails, social media and sometimes even blogging right from my phone I’m always looking for ways to make it work harder for me. Which is why it can be incredibly frustrating when I feel like it could do more.
Sometimes it seems in order to get my smartphone to do more I have to work harder which sort of defeats the purpose doesn’t it?

Once in a while we discover an app that actually does make life easier. Dolphin is this awesome free browser app that lets me do things no browser has before. It begins with one of the most user friendly home screens I’ve ever come across. You can access everything, and I do mean everything, right from the homepage. That includes: a URL bar, Tabs, History, Favorites, QR Code Scanner, a Search Bar, the ability to switch to Desktop Mode and access to Gestures – one of my favorite features, but more on that later.
A large part of this incredible accessibility is through side bars accessed by swiping left or right from the edge of the screen. In the left side bar, you can sign in to Dolphin Connect to sync bookmarks and history, manage bookmarks, and view/clear history. The ease of use I experienced with the home screen was simply unparalleled.
Although it was the Gesture feature I had most fun with. The idea is simple, by clicking the “Dolphin” you have the option to access your favorite web pages like Amazon, Google, Twitter etc. You can add any URL you like and create your own Gesture. For instance, one of the first things I did was change the Gesture from Lower Case to Upper Case A because it was easier for the gesture to recognize.
Honestly though, I first thought that Gestures were fun but not something I would use often because my favorite webpages are easily accessed as favorites on the home screen. However, the “Gestures” feature is designed to be accessed from anywhere. This makes it useful to navigate from one website to the next since it’s easier than using the URL bar and quicker than navigating back to the homepage first.
Other notable features of the Dolphin Browser App include:
- Sonar: Ask and you shall receive with smart voice search.
- Tabbed Browsing: Open multiple tabs for all-in-one browsing.
- Modes: Go into Night Mode, Private Mode, or Desktop Mode for maximum flexibility while you browse.
- Add-Ons: Tailor your Dolphin experience with third-party add-ons.
- Dolphin Connect: Stay connected by syncing your data across compatible devices.
Overall Dolphin proves to be a web browser unlike anything I’ve ever used but what’s most impressive is that it offers so much while still remaining fast and user friendly.
