Make this delicious savory Bacon and Spinach Danish Recipe in just 20 minutes. Perfect for lunch, snacking, parties or even a light dinner.
Do you know what is in the meat you buy and serve your family? The labels might say all the right things, but is the label accurate? Last summer, news broke that smuggled frozen meat had been seized in China, and some of it dated back to the 1970s! It is shocking in our modern world that this could happen, and it is a reminder that we need to be conscious of what we buy to feed our families. You never really know what is lurking right in your own grocery store.
When it comes to the meat you buy, what do you look for? Do you prefer grass fed beef? Compared to grain-fed, cattle that is only grass-fed has healthier overall meat which is higher in antioxidants, certain vitamins and even omega-3 levels. It also has less fat and a cleaner, more natural taste. This healthy option is what encouraged Mike Salguero to create ButcherBox. After being introduced to grass-fed cattle from a local farmer, Mike preferred the more natural taste and discovered the many health benefits it offered. Yet, he was surprised to find that not everyone has access to it, and those that do, don’t have a wide variety to choose from. This is why only 1% of the total beef consumed in the United States is 100% grass-fed. He decided to make grass-fed beef more accessible with the idea of ButcherBox.
Working with small farms, ButcherBox can purchase large quantities of meat and offer them to their customers at an affordable price. The beef is 100% grass fed with no hormones or antibiotics, and their chicken is all free range and organic. They also offer pork that is heritage breed and without hormones or antibiotics. When you join, you get 8 to 11 pounds of meat each month that arrive in eco-friendly packaging and offer healthy, unique cuts of meat. It breaks down to about $6.00 per meal! ButcherBox is making it affordable and easier to get healthier cuts of meat to serve your family.
I recently received an amazing beef and pork box and am thoroughly impressed with the quality and how it was shipped/arrived – in perfect condition, with a reusable bag even! I have so many recipes planned, but seeing as we received it just before Father’s Day, my first is of the perfect brunch for guests – a savory bacon and spinach danish recipe. Enjoy!
ButcherBox was named The Best Food Box of 2016 by Men’s Health and has been featured by Tim Ferriss, the Today Show, New York Times, Inc. Magazine, Fast Company, Food & Wine.
Savory Bacon and Spinach Danish Recipe
Make this delicious savory Bacon and Spinach Danish Recipe in just 20 minutes. Perfect for lunch, snacking, parties or even a light dinner.
Ingredients
a few pieces of crispy bacon crumbled
1 pre-made puff pastry sheet (typically in the freezer section)
½ cup fresh spinach (we had more for salads with the pastries)
¼ cup shredded cheese
dash of Himalayan salt
fresh thyme
optional: a few drops per pastry of pure maple syrup
Directions
Cut the (thawed) pastry sheet into six pieces. Then use the tip of the knife to cut a smaller rectangle about ½ an inch in from the edges. Try not to cut all the way through and instead just the top layers. This will allow the edges to puff around the filling and not create a dome.
Place clean, dry spinach in the center of this inner rectangle, then add in the crumbled crispy bacon and sprinkle with the shredded cheese, thyme and salt (along with the optional maple syrup).
Also optional, spread a little of the leftover bacon fat on the outer pastry not covered with filling, this will add more flavor and help the edges turn golden brown.
Bake at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes or until the pastry as really puffed and you can see a lot of the layers from the sides and it is a lovely golden color.
Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
Pit for later!

I received a complimentary Butcher Box. All opinions remain my own.
I’m all about danishes and I usually have them for breakfast. This is the perfect on-the-go lunch for my crazy days!
JUST when I thought there was nothing new that could be done with bacon… WOW! I want this!
Those puffed pastries looked so delicious you can never duplicate homemade taste. My kids would love this and the spinach makes it nutritious.
That. Is. AWESOME! All I know for sure about this is that it is a danish that involves bacon and that will be eaten by me! Om nom nom.
That sounds amazing! I’ve never seen a danish recipe like this before. I can’t wait to try it.
