[infobox]According to the National Fire Protection Association, there were over 365,000 house fires in 2013, resulting in 2,755 deaths and 12,200 injuries.[/infobox]
As a homeowner, the thought of losing my house and the contents that turn it into our home is devastating. While they may only be “things,” they’re things that we have accumulated that speak to our life. They’re the handmade ornaments created from centerpieces at our wedding. They’re our first family photographs and countless pieces of original artwork crafted by our child. Recently, a neighbor of ours experienced a house fire and as I watched the last of the sirens flash through our window blinds while I lay in bed, I couldn’t help but play the “What if?” game. Getting out of bed I tiptoed through the house checking the lights on all of our smoke alarms to make sure they were in working order.
It’s incredible how much stock we put in the ability of a fire alarm, a relatively simple piece of technology. But what if it could do more? And in today’s digital age, why shouldn’t it do more? That’s the question that has been asked and answered by the Leeo Smart Alert device. This genius little gadget covers all of the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in your home. Relatively inconspicuous and simple, this plug-in alarm alerts you if your smoke or CO detectors are going off at home. It plugs into any wall outlet and sets up in just a minute – no tools, batteries or special installation required. Plus, it even doubles as a night light. However, it does require a few things you have lying around already. Like your iPhone 4S (or later) or an Android phone running 4.3 (or later), in-home Wi-Fi, an address (so they know where to alert authorities in case of a fire) and the FREE Leeo App for iOS or Android.
Once you’re plugged in and running, the Leeo app for iOS and Android lets you know when your smoke/CO alarm is going off, even when you’re not home. From there you can decide to dial 911, call your friends, or just scream, “my house is on fire!” By adding contact info for trusted friends, family members or neighbors you can allow Leeo to invite them to receive phone alerts if you can’t respond to an emergency. If you don’t have friends, now would be a good time to make some! Leeo can also let you know when your home’s temperature and humidity aren’t the way you like them. So you can make sure your pets are nice and cozy when you’re gone.

The Leeo Smart Alert device definitely seems like something home owners should look into. I love that there’s also an app. I love how far technology has come <3
This Leeo Device seems like something that I would love to have for sure. It would be amazing to know where in the house the alarm is going off and I like that it is also an night light too. I will have to share this with my sisters too.
Interesting little product. Seems very useful to have around the house. Totally makes sense and I love that there’s an app :)
I love it when new technology is being invented – not just for silly things but to things that are actually useful and makes us all feel much safer by the day. Awesome.
I am also terrified of fire. I live in a trailer and they go up so fast. This sounds like it would be a great investment. I am far from rich but I do have many things that I would hate to lose. Special things like you said. Pictures, sentimental things. My computer full of pictures.
