Sandwiches are the most popular lunch box staple for everyone, from children to adults.
Why are they so popular?
Because sandwiches are one of the easiest, most versatile and convenient ways to make a healthy meal for anyone.
According to the National Bread Month fact sheet, 41% of American adults eat sandwiches up to six times and a week, and 60% eat sandwiches at least once a week.
If you have a picky eater or a child who just has better things to do than sit down and eat, sending your child to school with a cute bento box sandwich, just might earn you the “coolest mom” around badge, or at the very least get your child interested in and eating their lunch.
Plus it’s an easy way to remind kids how much you love them.
My son used to always come home with half-eaten lunches until I started making bento box lunches.
While there are some pretty elaborate designs out there that are insanely cool, really making just a few simple yet fun additions is all it takes to do the trick.
You don’t have to spend any more than just a few extra minutes preparing lunch and it’s also a great way to incorporate whole grains into their diet!
The Turkey sandwich bento shown here, only took me about 3 extra minutes than normal to make.
Just make the sandwich as usual, and use cookie cutters to cut out shapes from sandwich and cheese.
Use kawaii toothpicks to make fun little fruit or veggie kabobs and egg molds to make fun animal shapes.
And after tasting it for myself (ok so sometimes I send my kid to school with a bite taken out of his sandwich, why lie?), I started buying it for my husband too since his doctor recently told him he needed to lower his sodium intake.
Also a turkey and cheese everyday kind of guy (the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, does it?) and usually pretty picky about his lunchmeat, he has accepted the change with no fuss which means he likes it too.
