Where To Stay In Alaska: Large Waterfall Resort or Quaint Steamboat Bay?

When people think of Alaska the images they conjure up tend to differ. Some think of a mother moose and her calf, some picture glaciers and mountains, others imagine days spent boating and fishing King Salmon, Halibut and Rock Fish. If it’s any of the above, then Waterfall Resort and Steamboat Bay Fishing Club are calling your name.

Both of these All Inclusive resorts are on the site of a record-breaking seafood cannery near some of the best fishing spots in Alaska’s Inside Passage, one of the most famous fishing locations in the world. Fishermen and Women can fish King Salmon, Coho Salmon, Halibut, Ling Cod, Red Snapper, Black Bass and Rock Fish.

They also provide everything necessary for an awesome trip. Crewmembers at each resort have over 30 years of fishing experience and keep tabs on where fish are biting for optimum catching. The resorts provide rods, reels, tackle, bait, and all-weather gear. They even take care of all the miscelleneous details so you can just focus on the fishing. First, a ground crew in Ketchikan International Airport helps guests travel to and from the resort. Once your fish have been caught, the fish processing team professionally cleans, trims, packs, and freezes guests’ catch to order. Then both resorts provide an on-site Alaska Airlines agent to check in all fish for guests to bring home.

So how does someone choose between two great resorts? The decision is in the details. Waterfall Resorts has the accommodations to host groups of up to 92 guests, making them perfect for tournaments or business retreats, with their professional conference rooms, whereas Steamboat Bay Fishing Club offers an exclusive experience with many onsite amenities. 

The Waterfall Resort sits on 52 acres in the Tongass National Forest include scenic shorelines, nature trails, wildlife observation decks, salmon streams, and our very own namesake waterfall. The offer a variety of accomodations from historic cabins to family sized townhouse condos. With it’s many accomodations it’s the perfect place to organize a large group trip. While fishing, guest can relax in 27 heated 25’ cabin cruisers, the largest private fleet in Alaska. Guests can relax in the Lagoon Saloon or enjoy three full meals a day by the resort’s executive chef in the dining room. 

Steamboat Bay Fishing Club is a place I would love to escape with the family. It offers a more exclusive experience with maximum accommodations for 16 guest. Each of its ocean front rooms have their own wood burning stoves, private decks and scenic views. They also offer plenty of ways to relax after a long day on their heated 25′ cabin cruisers with amenities including sauna, hot tub, kayaks, wi-fi, and a club room with pool tables, cards and a big screen TV. Guests can also opt to have their meals in the resort’s presentation kitchen!
